► A hierophant (from the ancient Greek ἱερός / hierós, “sacred”, and φαίνω / phaínô, “to discover”) is a priest who explains the mysteries of the sacred1. In Greek Antiquity, the word designated more particularly the priest who presided over the mysteries of Eleusis and instructed the initiates. ► Un hiérophante (du grec ancien ἱερός / hierós, « sacré », et φαίνω / phaínô, « découvrir ») est un prêtre qui explique les mystères du sacré1. Dans l'Antiquité grecque, le mot désignait plus particulièrement le prêtre qui présidait aux mystères d'Éleusis et instruisait les initiés.
